The Week in Review: The Kindergarteners have worked very hard this past week at learning many more of our routines. They have worked on putting their names in alphabetical order, hunting for the letters in their names in a magazine, and building the first letter in their name with construction paper pieces. We practiced using many more “tools” of Kindergarten, including glue, markers, and watercolor paint. Modeling the correct use and care of our materials really helps the kids value and care for their things. The kids have also created their “Hopes and Dreams” for Kindergarten… what they hope to do or learn this year in school. These will be displayed in the entry way to the classroom, so take a peek.
C.A.R.E.S. We have also started learning about C.A.R.E.S., which are the terms we use to talk about our social interactions. The C= Cooperation (I likened this to teamwork), A=Assertion (using your words to help yourself or a friend), R=Responsibility (doing your job), E= Empathy (thinking about how other people feel), and S= Self-Control (keeping your body calm and quiet). I will continue to help the class understand these concepts and we will use them to help resolve any conflicts that may arise. We are currently having a poster contest to display kid’s interpretations of C.A.R.E.S. Please see the green flyer in your child’s Friday folder for more details.
Environmental Print Homework Reading print from the world around us is one of the beginning stages of literacy development. We see Environmental Print everywhere; and though we as adults don’t always consider it real “reading,” it is often the first print a child learns to read. Children are very excited when they can “read” a logo or sign. Making these connections with their environment helps children learn letters and sounds even faster, because they are engaged in their learning. Please help us in collecting samples of environmental print for the classroom. We are looking for logos from familiar items, such as M&M’s, Cheerios, etc. As we collect them, we will hang them on our “Words in Our World” wall. Thanks!
Scholastic Book Order Please see the enclosed flyers for opportunities to purchase books from the Scholastic Book Order. Checks need to be made out to Scholastic and if you order from multiple flyers, you only need to submit one check for the total amount due. Book orders are due by Monday, September 28th. Thanks! Spanish Class We will be having our Spanish amnity, Miss Marga, coming to teach 30 minute Spanish classes on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings for the next few weeks. Ask your child about the new things they are learning!
Have a great weekend!
