Problem Solving

During this unit, students might use the following skills:

* Making and interpreting a graph
* Writing an equation (proportion)
* Using a picture
* Using data from a table
* Using estimation
* Identifying and using patterns

Specifically to lessons:

8.1-8.3, 8.6 - Make tables and graphs, and write proportions to solve problems

8.4, 8.8 - Use a rate table to estimate and calculate caloric needs

8.5 - Plan a healthful lunch from a table of food information

8.7 - Use a graphic organizer to summarize various ways to represent a ratio

8.9, 8.10 - Write open proportions to find lengths of missing sides of similar figures and solve size-change problems

8.11 - Compare ratios by renaming them as n-to-1 ratios

8.12 - Explore patterns in the Fibonacci sequence
