Dear Families,

The first month has gone fast!  It was great to see and talk with so many of you at the Open House.  As you will see below, October will be a busy month.



Mark Your Calendars:
  • Wednesday, October 7th ~ Geckler Fundraising Orders Due
  • Friday, October 9th ~ Book Orders Due
  • Tuesday, October 13 ~ Flu Shot Clinic - 4:30 to 6:30
  • Thursday and Friday, October 16th and 17th ~ No School (MEA) 
  • Friday, October 23rd ~ No School (Conference Prep Day) 

Writers Workshop:
We have completed discussing the types of entries writers make in their notebooks and children are in an open cycle of notebook writing.  This month we will begin to focus on the genre of narrative writing.

Readers Workshop:
Each child’s reading level has been assessed and children are reading books that are “just right” for them.  We have discussed how to choose books and will be discussing different genres of literature.  We will also be working on grammar, parts of speech, and word study.

Library: 
Our scheduled library time is Wednesday ~ 10:35 to 11:05.

3rd Grade Math:
Third graders have completed Unit 1 and are beginning Unit 2:  Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers.  The main topics of Unit 2 are addition and subtraction of whole numbers, with special emphasis on the the basic facts and their extensions, solution strategies for addition and subtraction number stories, and addition and subtraction of multidigit numbers.

    5th - Music,       12th - Phy Ed,         19th -Science,        26th - Music

  • Please check your child's planner for homework assignments daily. 
  • Please initial the planner each day after your child has completed his/her homework.
