It is an unscrupulous intellect that does not pay to antiquity its due reverence. - Desiderius Erasmus
Neoclassicism is an art movement that draws upon ancient Greek and Roman ideas. This movement focuses on very realistic ideas of human form and environment. This art style became the ideas of "ideal". Artists focused on the idea of "perfect" human form and beauty, not realism. Creative ideas and innovations on the artists part were frowned on.
This art style had very strict rules and it was considered better to use fewer ideas and have a clean lined painting, rather than undeveloped ideas and impressions. This style was very popular throughout Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries (1600-1799).
