My father played pro baseball in the Dominican Republic. I played both baseball and basketball in high school.
I was called up to the Twins in September of 1997. I made my MLB debut in September of 1997. My first hit was on September 3, 1997. My first grand slam was in September of 2000. The Twins released me in December of 2000.
My mom died in a car crash in 2002. Every time I cross home plate I point to the sky in honor of my mom.
The Red Sox signed me in 2003. I was a big part of the 2004 World Series victory. I had 2 game winning hits against the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. I was also a big part of the 2007 World Series victory.
I released a story called Big Papi, My Story Of Big Dreams and Big Hits. On Mothers Day 2008, I used a pink bat in honor of breast cancer.
