             ELIZABETH BLACKWELL
I was born February 3,1821 in England. I was the oldest of nine children. In 1832 my father moved my family to America to be apart of the anti-slavery act. We moved from New York to Jersey City to Cincinnati. My father died in Cincinnati, leaving my family with out money.
I then became interested about being a doctor. 29 medical colleges rejected me before I was accepted to Geneva College in New York. Many people did not take me seriously because of my gender. I graduated at the top of my class on January 23, 1849 making me the first women to graduate medical school in the U.S. Hospitals in New York would not let me work there so I went to work in Paris.  When I returned from Paris Hospitals still would not let me work there so I opened a clinic in my own apartment. My clinic treated 200 patients. I then opened a women’s medical college. I retired at 86 and returned to England. I died of a stroke May 3,1910 at the age of 91. I am Elizabeth Blackwell.
