                                           Abraham Lincoln

I was born on February 12,1809.  My father was Thomas Lincoln and my mother was Nancy Hanks Lincoln.  My mother died when I was ten years old.  My stepmother was very good to me.  Her name was Sarah Bush Johnston.  My father didn’t like slavery so we moved west where there were no slaves. I was mostly self educated.

When I was 23 years old I ran for the Illinois state Legislature.  After being in the House Of Representatives, I left to become a lawyer. I taught myself law and I was one of the best lawyers in Illinois.

In 1842 I married Mary Todd. We had 4 children together.  People from the north wanted me to be president. I debated against Stephen Douglas. I gave my famous “ House Divided” speech in June 16, 1858.

I was elected for the 16th president on November 6, 1860. At that time the north didn’t want slave states and the south wanted slave states.  I decided to raise an army to fight and to save the union from falling apart.  The Civil War ended in 1865 and the United States remained one country.

On April 15, 1865 John Wilkes Boothe shot and killed me. I’m remembered as the savior of the union. I am Abraham Lincoln.
