Queen Victoria
I was born on May 24, 1819 to Edward Duke of Kent and Victoria Maria Louisa of Saxe - Coburg. My father died of pneumonia when I was eight months old. My childhood passed quickly as I learned the piano, English, painting as well as starting the diary I would keep for the rest of my life. I ascended the throne when I was only 18. I was very close with my advisor Lord Melbourne but in February 1840 I fell in love and married Prince Albert. The years passed quickly, Albert and I got along well, ruling together. Then in 1861 Albert died. I was devastated and would wear black for the rest of my life. Still my country flourished; the industrial revolution was at it’s height, the zipper, light bulb, bicycle, and saxophone are only a few of the inventions of my time. In 1887 I became queen of India as well. The years were passing quickly, though; on June 20, 1887 my Golden Jubilee was celebrated. I had been queen for fifty years! I think that 1900 was the beginning of the end. The years were wearing heavily on me and I died on January 22, 1901 at 6:30 pm. I am best remembered for the longest reign, 64 years! Though eight assassination attempts were inflicted on me, at my death it was said “England had a world wide empire on which the sun never set”. I am Queen Victoria.
