 | | Impression, Sunrise | Impressionism; it is the birth of Light in painting.
- Robert Delaunay
Impressionism was a 19th century (1800-1899) art movement that began with a few Paris based artists. The name Impressionism came from a painting by Claude Monet, Impression, Sunrise.
Impressionism is known for its visible brush strokes, emphasis on light sources, and its "change-ability". The paintings are often of ordinary subject matter, often painted from unusual angles, and the artists try to include the idea of movement.
