adjourn (ə-jûrn')

To suspend until a later stated time.

peculiar (pĭ-kyūl'yər)

1. Unusual or eccentric; odd.
2. Distinct from all others. See synonyms at strange.

veterinarian (vĕt'ər-ə-nâr'ē-ən)

A person who practices veterinary medicine.

liberal (lĭb'ər-əl, lĭb'rəl)

1. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
2. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

sophomore (sŏfmôr')

1. 1. A second-year student in a U.S. college.
   2. A tenth-grade student in a U.S. high school.
2. A person in the second year of carrying out an endeavor.

respiratory (rĕsə-)

Of, relating to, used in, or affecting respiration.

conscience (kŏn'shəns)

1. The awareness of a moral or ethical aspect to one's conduct together with the urge to prefer right over wrong: Let your conscience be your guide.
2. A source of moral or ethical judgment or pronouncement: a document that serves as the nation's conscience.

acquaintance (ə-kwān'təns)

1. 1. Knowledge of a person acquired by a relationship less intimate than friendship.
   2. A relationship based on such knowledge: struck up an acquaintance with our new neighbor.

disintegrate (dĭs-ĭn'tĭ-grāt')

1. To become reduced to components, fragments, or particles.
2. To lose cohesion or unity: pressures that cause families to disintegrate

susceptible (sə-sĕp'tə-bəl)

1. Easily influenced or affected: “She suddenly was too susceptible to her past” (Jimmy Breslin).
2. Likely to be affected: susceptible to colds.
